Unhappy 250 steering wheel pad repair

Rebuilding my interior: the steering wheel center pad is ripped, and replacements are $340 from the classic center!!
I was thinking about buying some of that ripped vinyl dash repair stuff to try and fix it the rip. Anyone out there have any luck with this or any other method of repairing the pad?

Considering the high replacement cost, see if there is a vinyl/furniture repair place in town. I bought a small kit, did a small repair acceptably, but not great, and I believe that with practice and some artistic skill, it can be done. Maybe they can do the repair and you can do the dyeing. Unless it's an "easy" color that can be mixed from the vinyl repair powders, dye/paint will be needed.

I have read on other forums that professionals can perform miracles on dashes and vinyl/leather.

Check this site, and farther down the page is a section on pad repair.
