110.011 Engine Swap?
 

Hi, guys. New user, and new Mercedes owner.

I just bought a 1965 Mercedes 230 (110.011) with a 180.945 engine (the straight six). Someone decided to steal a bunch of stuff off of this engine before it got to me, so I'm wondering if it'd be cheaper for me to find another engine and put that in.

I'd prefer something with a bit of power. If it says anything at all, right now I have a 1979 Triumph TR7 with a smallblock Chevy engine in it that will do wheelies. :) I work at a hot rod shop here in the Atlanta, GA area doing metal fabrication and the like, so if there is some fab required, I'm not too concerned about that.

Before I go all crazy and start strapping solid rocket engines to this thing, though - which (if any) engines will bolt up to the stock auto transmission I have, and preferably would even fit these motor mounts?

The nose is too short for a chev. look for a later model Mercedes Engine such as M110 . They are tough,(hemi combustion chamber) and for the money you will spend changing the 4.10 rear end to gear it up to suit the short stroke GM engine,you could turbo the M110. Another choice would be a m103 single cam six or M104 twin cam six. Both engines are smooth and powerful and will fit without issue.
I am dropping a Rover V8(UK Buick 215) into a W11o at the moment for a customer.

These are small engines but a lot longer than any mercedes engine so it going to have to have a lot of sheet metal mods to fit a radiator up front.
If you had access to one,a OM606 diesel turbo would make for huge power and low running costs...

Huh? I just put a tape measure to my M130, and it's about 28 inches from the back of the valve cover to the front of the water pump pulley. A small block Chevy with a short water pump is 26.5 inches OAL.

The problem with swapping an V8 is the driveshaft and differential won't take the much hight torque. You will need to find replacements from a 280SE 4.5 or a 280SEL 4.5.

What parts are missing from the original engine?

Yes i understand that but check out the oil pan. it 's in the wrong place. it's never been a happy swap without a dry sump. Some of the old iron Fords (windsor,cleveland ) fit better but are still a long engine .
i would install a LS3 with a holden commodore pan before thinking about a iron block SBC.
The W110 is 4" shorter than the W111 Finnys.

Missing the entire head. A few other small parts like fuel pump and such, but the main thing its missing is the head.

Then you're in luck because I just happen to have a NOS head suited for a 230 or 250S. No valves or hardware - just the bare head as received from MB.
I also have a complete set up from a 230S W111 car. Would likely need a rebuild but all of the parts are there including the carbs and manifolds.

If it were mine, I'd swap in a 1970s 280SE engine and run that.

I have a complete engine and transmission for a 1970 250 C. The head was just returned fro Germany and planed plus new springs and valves. The rocker cover has been powder coated and everything is perfect. Anyone interested. Give me an offer. Nothing missing.
