Any option code tag experts here?
Sixto suggested (in reply to my post in the Diesel section) that someone in Vintage might be an expert in the arcane numbers Mercedes stamped into the paint and options code tag that is attached to the front of the car. My '87 300D Turbo (W124, OM603) came to me without a tag and I've been watching the junkyards for something sufficiently similar that I can "adopt" it.
A couple of months ago I found a car very similar to mine, in fact identical except for paint and interior colors, at the local Pick and Pull. The VIN, engine serial, and transmission serial are only a few thousand units different (newer) than my car. All I have to do is to paint the tag Arctic White and screw it onto my car. Here is a picture of the tag. http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/n...20300D/Tag.jpg The paint and option numbers are listed in a number of places and aren't difficult to figure out. What has both me and Sixto puzzled are the digit strings in the first ("6131376 5"), third ("31 4E 1"), and fifth ("110695 M") rows. They don't correspond to anything in the Datacard that EPC has for this car. There's nothing helpful in either the Mercedes-Benz Club Russia site or the Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI). Any suggestions?
