111 Chassis Sway Bar bushings - polyurethane or other material upgrade options?
I was doing some wrenching on the 1966 230S today and noticed the rubber
donuts at the sway bar ends have distorted more than I would expect in 10 years of occasional use with a couple stretches of daily driver duty. Does anybody know if there is a polyurethane or stiffer material upgrade available? I suspect these are "generic" parts that can be swapped over from some other make/model. I would also guess that if I do all the rubber donuts in something stiffer I should also do the rubbers where the sway bar mounts to the frame. Along the same lines - anybody know a thicker sway bar from another model that will bolt up? I really prefer stiffer handling. My 190SL has an upgraded sway bar that is 50% stiffer - helps a lot. |

Thanks - that sway bar should be easy to find. Do you have a source for the bushings and donuts?
I found this one - Universal Sway Bar Bushings | Energy Suspension Parts They have the donuts also. I went ahead and ordered. Cheap enough to give them a try. Last edited by mb230s; 11-13-2011 at 07:38 PM. |

Do you know how thick a 108 4.5 sway bar is? According to the EPC mine is 21mm. For some odd reason the dimensions aren't listed in the EPC for the 108 VINs I pulled up like it was for my 111.

23.5 mm and the 300SEL (Not 6.3! ) bar is 24.5 mm .
W108 parts #108 323 07 65 and # 108 323 02 65 = 23.5 mm W109 #323 04 65 #109 323 07 65 = 24.5mm 6.3's have a 23.5 bar # 108 323 04 65 All bars have a part number stamped into them on one end but you have to really look hard to find it. Bore diameter for the bushes : 23.5 mm bar is 22mm -0.5 mm and for the 24.5 mm is 23mm -0.5 |
