My daughters 1978 or 9 280 Se

Well hello folks, After years of driving vintage Subarus my daughter got herself her dream car a Mercedes Benz !!(she kept her subie wagon) Its a 1978 280 SE for $350 bucks and drove it home !! well i told her be sure your AAA is paid up cause you will need it....well surprise Dad,it still runs great ,dosn't use any oil and the tranny shifts fine....what a machine. a chev dealer in town had it on the back lot so i wasn't to eager for her to buy it. they started at $900 bucks and after a few weeks of dickering it was down to $350. i told her to go for it at that price...and after almost a year it still runs great, what a ride... i have been looking for a owners manual for it but i can't seem to find the right one. the vin number is 11602412108715.its on a plate on the dashboard and stamped into the center of the firewall. the only issue i have with it is it idles too high and being fuel injected is a little tricky to adjust(so i've read). so any help or info would be great.thank you and what a cool web site,Todd

Todd, you may have a vacuum leak that is causing the high idle. If not, then there should be a big plastic adjustment screw that you can tighten to lower the idle speed.

still leaking?

hey guys, well i looked all over for vacuum leaks.found some cracked n funky lookin tubing near the fuel body so i told her to get a couple feet of it and we'll replace them just to be sure. i did get the idle to go down some by adjusting the big white plastic screw to the left of the fuel body.i turned it in all the way and the idle is still a tad high and the vacuum gauge is holding steady at 15. should be around 20 right?the gauge says late timing but i'm still thinking vacuum leaks.i'll get some starting fluid and see if i can find any leaks that way.any thing i should look for? is there a vacuum diagram somewhere i could study as some of the vacuum lines are just pluged and hanging there. again thanks to all.c ya,Todd
