look around the fuses , should be a silver cube ,mounted near the fuse box. The 280 had it under the bonnet

Also check the connection to the computer, if it's not plugged in right, the fuel pump wont run.

The injection pump relay is just a regular bosch relay with 1 1/2" tin cover . I am trying to remember where they were located on LHD cars (our RHD cars were different) but i am sure it's on the firewall opposite the drivers side. you have 12 volts to the rear when the key is first turned on?
You need to rig a small test light to make sure, and the relay cuts off until the engine is actually turning over.
On W108's the fuel pump relay is located close to the alternator regulator .

I'm heading out to North Carolina to check out that '77 300D with 115k I spotted. Cross your fingers and wish me luck there.

I'll resume my search for Wilmas fuel pump relay once I start work on her again. Thank you all very much for the hints. They're now jotted down on amsoil soaked paper on my bench.

Well, I've officially got Alabassi sickness. The 300D came home with me and we named her "Gretchen" before I even left the guys driveway. Basically a solid early w123. Odd patches of rust here and there, but thankfully no sunroof! Came with a decent set of Bundts, and a set of steelies with hubcaps. Engine is a spunky preformer with a bit of blowby. The oil cap dances but doesnt come off entirely. Manual glow plug system with pencil style plugs. The whole braking system is good new parts.

The evil servo has claimed the function of all buttons except defrost... which blows cold. At least I know the blower works. Wipers work, radio mostly works, antenna works brilliantly. All of her windows work, but some are slow. The seals are that special kind of German dry rotted rubber that keeps rain out but leaks in a car wash. I really like this little w123. I seem to be collecting E classes eh? Photos.

This is an engine driven welder for sale. The guy who sold me the w123 is the owner. Its a Chrysler slant 6, 60% duty cycle at 250 amps. He wants $2,000.00 and I have his number if you want it.

This is my spy armory. lol. 1916 Erefurt Luger, Rossi .357 magnum, .32ACP CZ70, and a Springfield XD40. Not pictured, my 1911 .45

Nice 300D. Even nicer Erfurt. If you ever make the mistake of selling it please keep me in mind. That CZ70 is kinda nice too. Friend of mine back in SA had one as his carry gun. I had a CZ83 in 380ACP. The 70 was a blast to shoot. If I remember correctly even more recoil than the CZ83.

How did you come by that Luger if I may ask? Family heirloom or a lucky deal?

- Peter.

The Luger is a bit of a sharpie, thanks for noticing. I snagged it with the holster out of a local pawn shop. It's a GI bring back, all numbers matching and shoots brilliantly at 30 yards. It is extremely picky about which ammo it will cycle though. It was a bit of a steal at 800 bucks because it has no import marks. I hate electropencils!!

The CZ is a great little shooter, but I'd never trust my life to a little .32acp alone. It's best as an ankle gun. Carry purposes are fufilled full time by my para .45 LDA CCO (the more acronyms in the name the more deadly the firearm.

My favorite varmniter in my arsenal is a mini 14 with a banana clip and an ATN gen two night scope mounted so you Can still use the iron sights in the daytime. My favorite old gun in the Farm Armory is a Remington Mosin Nagant model 1891 Dragoon rifle, traded to Finland in the thirties and refurbished then with the 3.5x scope as a sniper rifle.

Thanks mate! I've got empty nest syndrome at the moment. Mert is off having his front glass replaced, Herb is out getting new head studs and an array of other goodies, and poor Wilma is hiding out 22 miles away from my shop in the garage of the house I used to live in.

Also, realistically... We have to grab these cars while they're still around and save them from oblivion. They were built to last forever, but a good many people are testing that claim with inept maintenance, and driving habits. One day, god help us, w123's will be as scarce as fintails, and were all going to stand around scratching our heads wondering what happened to the hundreds of cheap old mercs that used to be advertised for sale.

Thank you, Ron, for everything you've done to ensure another old Merc stays on the road. I fondly recall reading all about Libby.

if you had a handful of pistols like in OZ you would be thrown in jail....
Only Cops and bad guys have pistols here now.

I see a dealer in the USA often advertising W123 diesels with 5 figure asking prices.

Nice! I've always wanted a Luger. You are fortunate indeed.

That is one I'd like to see a good picture of as well if you are ever able to take one. I have five Mosins myself, three 91/30's one M44 and an M59. The oldest is only from 1927.

I'll get a picture up of the Mosin soon. It's a 1917 manufacture if I remember correctly. Remington crest and serial number on the breech, SA stamp low on the side. Great shooter.

yes , Libby , the girl that stole my heart. Looking back , wish I would have kept her. Fortunately she is being well cared for , the gal that bought her collects cars and needed that one to complete some line she was working on. Not sure if she drives her much, but I know it will live on ,probably long after me.
All I have right now is my 72 107 and that is about close to perfect as I am capable and a great driver. I have an 89 BMW I drive daily and am in deparate search for the "right" project to fill my down times. Started on a 78 280Z but did not feel the love.. so thats gone. Know of some old MB's but the guy is a bit eccentric and is not moving any of them right now

I haven't been following this thread but just read it in it's entirety.
JiveTurkey, you have a quite a thing going on out there and at your age it sounds like you have a handle on some of the finer points of life. Congratulations on keeping the family intact and the Benzes alive. If I ever make it out there I'm gonna look you up.
On another note, you might (have already) look(ed) into legal means (protective order-etc) to prevent your grandpa from trying to return and cause even further harm. And don't worry about Cole getting a free ride. You're better off with him out of the picture.

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to read through the whole thing. I tried to keep it as brief as I could, nobody likes a martyr. Unfortunately the state of Tennessee won't grant you a restraining order unless someone has actually caused you physical harm and the police have responded.

As for Cole getting a free ride? Well, if the gravy train gets cut off down south, he may always decide to try to come back up here and milk his mom. He's a lying manipulative conniving mother****er, and as distraught as Grams is she might fall victim to him.

On the positive side... I heard through the grapevine that 'ole peckerhead Larry was arrested for............. Drumroll please......... Solicitation of Prostitution! Shocker. Unfortunately the ****er got out on bail.

All in all... I'm really falling in love with my new 300D. I can't even begin to imagine how brilliant it's going to be when I've restored function to the evil servo. I'm taking off the bunts and putting the steelies and hubcaps back on. I know the tradeoff in rotating unsprung mass is going to suck, but I'm vain. 123's just look better with the hubcaps. I might strip and refinish the bundts in Astral Silver if anyone wants them. They're a pretty nice set. Or I could strip them and polish the aluminum like I did for my SD.
