how to disconect cruise. scary need help

Hello,
I have a 80 240d with 200k miles. Everyonce in a while I will be driving and it feels like the car is in cruise control. it brakes and stops but at lights it is pulling. If i put the car in park the accel takes off to a million rpms. I dont know how but i found if i give it a ton of gas a rev the hell out of it it will go back down to normal idle.

i am assuming it has something to do with the cruise. Any ideaS? anyone know how to disconect.

Oh yeah i never actually turn on the cruise but maybe i touch it by accident.

thanks

Jake

Jake I'd check to make sure your throttle linkages are nicely lubricated and not sticking before you start pulling things out of the engine bay. Make sure too that the floor mats aren't catching you out.

I'm impressed that you can get a million rpm on your OM616.

A 240D can do 5700 RPM, higher than the OM 617... but i agree with the above.
Also, has it got an oil bath aircleaner?
Has it been cleaned lately?
Does the car smoke ?

it would be rare to have a ACC stick, I'd go with a check of linkages, lubricate , look for binding , worn links, also check throttle linkage at fire wall and under foot
