New $150 1974 240d!
So a friend of mine announced that I would buy his 1974 240d for $150. He drove it over to my place this afternoon. I figured I'd use it for parts for my 1976 115 300d.
But, man, this thing is not really that bad! Right front fender is dinged up pretty good, and the interior has more or less been eaten by a dog. It runs and drives very well, though ... Anyone got any 115 interior parts (mainly rear seat bottom) and/or right front fender? Or can someone tell me to come to my senses and park this thing and use it for parts? Pics attached. -Dan

Way too nice to part out mate! I can keep my eyes peeled for some parts. MB interiors are normally ****ing legendary, must have been a German dog that thrashed the inside. Please don't kill an old Merc just because a few things are not up to spec. These cars were built to last lifetimes! Thank you for buying h off your friend and giving her a reprieve.

I know you don't really want to hear this, but I agree you should bring her back to life. Heck, I never would have thought you meant a RUNNING car for $150, so it can't be all that bad if he drove it to your place. May I suggest you add your location to your user profile so we can see when you post where you're located? I know a wrecked coupe here but I don't know where you're located, or if the fender would fit yours (the interior on it is shot).

Man, he should have fed his dog "dogfood"! That would have been better for both the dog and the Mercedes.

Thanks for the responses, guys. JiveTurkey and Marrs, my heart says to save this thing when I drive it too. Sigh. I don't need any more cars. I'm in upstate SC ... profile updated.
Injector return lines pouring, interior eaten, right front fender mashed ... My thought is that I'll replace the injector return lines and drive the old girl for a bit and see what happens. -Dan

junkyard trip
I'm sure some members close to you will find an interior for you at a junkyard. I use to see them on a fairly regular basis when I was visiting the Memphis area junkyards.

Definitely let me know if anyone knows of or comes across a 115 interior in my general area (SC, NC, GA, TN) ...
JiveTurkey, thanks very much for the offer of the return line ... but as it happened I had just enough laying around to do the job. Bet it'll get much better fuel mileage now. -Dan

Heck, if you put $1K into it fixing it (doubtful since it is running) you could still sell it for a profit! The fuel injector line will defiantly correct your mileage, it did mine. Get a good battery, check the glow plugs are still strong and get a good (or check out your starter and alternator generator?)
And she will run forever or at least a good long while...dont forget oil and filters.....too nice to crush, someone would love to have that car. Get it in order and you will have a more reliable car than is on the road today @ $50,000....just the basics will keep it running nice! And the even cooler part of owning that car, is most of it you can fix yourself or have rebuilt! BTW WELCOME!!!

Oh well, c'est la vie.
For future reference, what about the fronts? Will they bolt in to a 115?
