New to me 200D
Hello all I have a friend that has been threatening to give me his "old" mercedes for about two years...well yesterday he dropped it off. Handed me the title and said good luck! I don't know much about the car I have various W123 diesel cars, but have not done much research on the older cars. I assume it is a W115? I also assume it is a 68 model but am not 100% positive, I should of looked at the title. He said it has a been a few years since it has ran so I am going to tackle that first. It has a 4 speed manual transmission and I assume those are Euro bumpers? Any info on this beauty would be appreciated! Here are a few pics I can get more if needed.

It is a 220D. Indeed a W115. Pre-1972/73, because it has a smaller grille and the old small sideway mirror. Bumpers look euro, headlights are US-DOT.
As far as I can see, it looks good. The engine (if original) is a OM615 engine, produces 60HP. The diesel pump has a pneumatic governor, controlled by a vacuum created by a venturi and a butterfly valve in the intake manifold. The IP has it own oil. It has a oil-bath air filter. The oil filter consists of two parts: a main filter which can be cleaned and re-used and a by-pass filter, which should be replaced. Any reason why it hasn't run for a long time? Is it broke? Here are some more technical facts about the 220D: http://et.mercedes-benz-clubs.com/mediawiki/index.php/Kategorie:W114/W115/en#W_114_.2F_W_115_sedans_series_1 (scroll down to 220D). |
I had a 72 that looked just like that. Mine was a farmer special ordered with manual steer in Logansport in. the bumpers for euro and us are the same until 74 when the ugly stick hit them hard!:P

Thanks for the replies....I was wondering what years of cars the interiors will interchange with as this one needs some attention. Hopefully within the week I am going to try to get it running, and go from there.

I'm not a W115 expert, but I do know the early US trim ones had bumpers which were much smaller then the later cars.

Your gonna have fun with that 220D. Fresh diesel and good long glow(1 min if it still has loop plugs) and maybe a valve adjustment and i bet it will start up.

Pictures lye, the data plate does not. It'll be up on the radiator support.
