Avoid Veggie 240D ?

Is it a good idea to avoid purchasing a 76 240D 115.117 that was run on veggie using a two tank system?
Is that hard on the car?

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer: It depends. You can run veg in a two tank system with little to no adverse effects. However, you need to do everything right in order to achieve this result. "Everything right" includes filtering the oil before use, checking the Ph to ensure no excess acidity, and ensuring the oil is up to temperature before it reaches the injector pump. Most people who veg manage to mess up on one or more of these items. Failure on any of these points can result in excess wear on injector pumps, injectors, or failed/stuck piston rings. A long talk with the seller may help you determine how well the veg use was being controlled.

A 240D I was looking at had been run on a veggie oil gasoline mix for the past two years...that sounds dubious to me
I've been researching it and it seems like a snake oil sort of deal
There's no special tank switching or oil heating components installed apparently

There are too many idiots who cobbled together a veggie system, only to get frustrated, quit and try to sell their way out of a POS. Yes, avoid. Big time.

Run. If you want an MB diesel, find a nice unmolested one and if you want, veg yourself and do it right.
