1976 450 SLC

I have people staying at the B&B that have a 1976 450 SLC from europe that was imported. They say it is in excellent condition and has 48,000 originial miles. They wanted to know what it is worth?
Anyone have any clue? The owner says it is really fast but the gas milage sucks at about 14 mpg.

Short answer: Not much.

R107 roadster prices are in the dumps right now, and the SLC was always the ugly sister to the roadster.

Just to put a price out there since you asked, $10,000 perhaps? And that would be assuming the buyer likes the history and thinks that adds value. I dont think the MPG's would hurt the sale.

SLC

That is a consumable classic, buy it, drive it, wear it out,
At 14 MPG you may discover that it is a really cheap car to own over time, mileage isn't everything.

I'm not looking to buy , but he ask me so I thought I would put it on the board and see what ya'll said.
He claims it came with the 500 motor and only 1500 were made. Speedo goes to 175.
He is a older guy but loves the car. I think he just was wondering what it is worth. I doubt he wants to sale it.
I found one in Ill for asking price of 12,000 but like anything you can ask what ever you want getting is another matter.

Turns out it is a 1976 450 SLC 5.0.

I don't know if that changes the value or not.

It does...and it doesn't. I was under the impression that the 450 SLC 5.0 was introduced late in 1977.

Alibassi has had a few of these cars. He's probably got an idea about market value.

If it's a real 5.0, and it still has the euro bumpers and lights, it's the most desirable permutation of the R107 coupes.

I hate to even guess, without a good description, and lots of pictures, the cars value can be near nothing to maybe 7-8K. Assuming the car is very nice, it will still will take a lot of effort to find the person who values the car at the top of the range. The basic problem is that 7-8K will now buy a pretty decent R107 roadster, so the top end is very limiting.

You can always go online, and get value quotes. Edmunds and NADA are pretty unrealistic vis a vis the current market, but is a good reference if all you are doing is "stroking" the owner.....

I see this quite often, it seems that every time someone is selling a 450SEL it's a 6.9, and if it's a 450SLC, it's a 5.0

To be sure, check the vin, if it starts with 107026 then it's a 5.0 car. As the one you mentioned that it is a 76, it's probably a 107024 which is a 4.5, or a 107023 which a 3.5 or it has a straight six engine which makes it a 107022.

What's it worth? The sad reality is probably not as much as they would like for it to be worth but if they have a price is mind, have them list it on craigslist and eBay. If they don't get any bites, they can always adjust.
