Chrome Trim bits -- w110
All,
I have a 67 200d w110 and have a few questions on chrome trim. #1 chrome strip above rear bumper I have the piece and I see the holes where a fastener would hold on to. My question is what do these fasteners look like? The ones I have don't seem to slip into the "guides" of the trim. This makes me think what I have is incorrect. #2 rain gutter trim I think my trim might just be bent. Towards the tail of the gutter it stops following the gutter. Is this glued down somehow or is it all snapped in place with the actual trim having a curve. Perhaps mine was straightened when somebody painted it. #3 rocker panel trim Anyone have these pieces? Ideally not for heartburn prices. Thanks all! |

I cannot help you with #3, but any Mercedes dealer can tell you about #1 and #2.
The little buttons you need to snap the chrome in are still available, or at least they were a year or so ago. One problem people run into is the holes tend to wallow out/rust out over the years and become bigger than they should be. If this is the case then the standard fittings will not work, but the dealer might have some that will. The dealers' prices are reasonable on stuff like this, and they could also answer your gutter trim question. You might take a photo or two of what you are talking about. They are unlikely to have a picture still in their system, but the counter guys normally know what this stuff is. |

1. Kind of wondered the same thing. The originals where metal clips for sure. From the parts manual, they look like flat pieces with an ear on each corner to snap inside the trim (see attachment). Looks to be held on with a rivet. I tried several years ago to buy some from the dealer but was told they are no longer available. Ended up going with some universal snap-in clips of JC Whitney that fit.
2. The trim is simply pressed on and held with friction. if they have been removed incorrectly they will take a bow. If you try to tap it on and it will not stay, you will probably need to carefully squeeze the back side to close of the gap. If you take it off, do not use a screwdriver, but instead a hard piece of plastic placed on the outer lower lip, then tap it up off of the body working from one end to the other. 3. Good luck with that one. If you find used, they are usually dented up or held on with screws. Might try the dealer for new if you are brave enough. |
