280SE 4.5 engine in 450SL?

I want to remove an engine from a '72 280SE and install it in a '74 450SL. The engines look the same to me, but will it actually bolt up to the transmission and will it match engine mounts, etc? Anyone done this before?

The basic longblock is the same.

The oil pan & most likely the engine support arms are different.

Other than swapping the oil pan & oil filter assemblies it should be a simple swap. Both are D-Jet engines - there may be a difference in vac lines, with the 108 engine only having vac retard (no advance) but you can just plug that & set timing to 7° ATDC.
