w115 72 220 cylinder head questions
Anyone know what, if any, Mercedes takes a 16mm OD and 11mm Id exhaust valve guide? I am having the head rebuilt and the machinist called today to inform me of this anomaly guide. Obviously, this is not a virgin head and has suffered either a mistake, or an extreme fix. The largest oversize called out by Mercedes is 15.4mm OD. The other three are within range, the above is not anywhere near in range. My options are in order of preference: 1. Find a guide that will work; 2. have a machinist bore the hole bigger, make a sleeve and install; 3. Find a virgin or rebuildable head to work with on the forums: Enter the crap shoot and locate a head at a salvage yard, which I am wholly adverse to, if not just for the risk of adding insult to injury, but for the amount of leg work involved. Does anyone have any ideas on this whole score? Finally: Does anyone have a rebuildable head for this 72 220 I could buy? Thank you all for your time.

Only now discovered your post, I am interested. What is the state of the head and history as far as you know?
