Start/stop cable adjustment at IP on 1968 220d, w115

Hi, I have decided to adjust all of my control linkages to match the FSM in my 1968 220D, w115 automatic tranny with the pneumatically controlled M injection pump. The FSM has the attached figure to explain how to adjust the start/stop cable. Could you help me interpret the "at least 2 mm play" statement? Which side of the arm from the IP is supposed to have 2 mm of play? The figure makes it look like the arm from the IP is centered in the cable end slot, but it is a terrible picture in my version of the FSM.

Also, does your start stop cable have a washer between the cotter pin and the cable end slot? Mine did not, but the FSM implies there is supposed to be one. Thanks.

The 2 mm play is between the top of the slot and the center of the axle of the lever of the pump.

The slot pushes and pulls on the lever via the axle, but it does not actuate the lever in the drive and pre-glow position.

I think there should be a locking washer so as to keep the slot on the lever, but it will probably function without one as the cable is quite stiff.

Govert-
Thanks for clarifying that. I didn't realize that the cable doesn't actuate the lever in the drive and glow position. My slot has been slightly enlarged over time due to misalignment between the cable and the IP lever. Also, the missing washer might have contributed. So maybe that is something that needs replacing at some point.

And thanks for all your previous contributions regarding diaphragm injection pumps on other sites. It helped me very much in my efforts to diagnose a hunting/loping idle. In my case, I don't have any leaks from the diaphragm or poppet cam, so I am going to keep looking elsewhere for a solution.

If it is not the diaphragm or the poppet cam axle, it must be the connections, the vacuum tube or the seals between the poppet cam house or governor house.

The cable pulls the lever in the start position (when you start): the maximum amount of diesel is injected. The cable also pushes the lever in the stop position.
