Injector Pump - Oil Cap

I opened up my hood today (for no apparent reason) and realized a part was missing. The red Oel (oil) cap for the injector pump is gone.

I saw on benzworld someone asking for a replacement and they were quoted $59. That's a bit too rich for my blood.

Anyone have any suggested replacements that will work? Cheap is good.

Thanks!

Find one the scrapyard. They are not only an oil filler cap, but also an air filter.

Thanks for the suggestion, but 200D's aren't sitting around in our scrapyards in Northern California here. Most cars are from the 90's with the occasional one from the 1970's.

There has to be a replacement that will work.. some creative solution. Anyone?

As Govert says, air has to be able to pass through the cap, to keep atmospheric pressure on one side of your diaphragm. So whatever solution you come up with needs to do three things:
1) keep oil in
2) keep dirt out
3) let air pass freely in and out

Sorry to not have any specific solutions. We have an old 240D in our local junkyard, but the "oel" cap to the IP is broken. Mine is cracked as well (1968), so it must just break after enough years of vibrating. Good luck.

Maybe you can try something with a paper fuel filter.

It does not have to be a 200D, similar caps were used on the fintail 190D and the W115 200D, 220D and 240D.

Thanks all.

I found a fuel injector service guy in San Francisco that sells the plastic kind for $35. That's a lot better than $59 someone else quoted in another forum. I decided to suck it up and spend the $$.
