I love the 189s.
They are a work of art.
Do you have any more pictures, please.

I have one in a 300SE ( 112 ) RHD One of the bigger challenges I've had to sort out. I would rate them as hard to work on.

Harder to work on?
Maybe because there are bigger, less space in the engine compartment.
Most of them also carry the air compressor for the suspension.
Yes, there is some added complexity in the injection pump drive for example, or in the water pump mounting.
Other then that I think they are almost equal with a M130.

In my experience there life expectancy is somewhat shorter then any other Mercedes engine after ww2.

However, there are still very beautyfull engines.

I love them too, tons of power and when runing right ,are a joy to drive.
As for pics,I have some you tube vids of some I have had running. The latest one is not a happy engine. i didn't do the MFi pump ,and it's running rough .I have told the owner to find out who did the pump for him and I'll get them to re do the fuel flows . It's way too lean across the range and the idle stop was refitted in the wrong place.

Engine stand

I was so impressed by the stand in Warren's post that I made one. I got 2 of the cheapo Harbor Freight stands and modified them. I had to cut and weld the vertical support because the pivot tubes were pointing different directions. The cheap stands have a lot of flex in them so I had to add more bolts were they fit together and I did not want the tubes to bind from the stand flexing. I added a detachable boom to move the engine on and off the stand. I cut off the wheels and welded the castors on. It works very well. I still need to put a locking mechanism to lock the stand.

Tony, I like that stand. I especially like the hoist. Good job.

Mercmad, beautiful engine, I would clearcoat it too.
