NEVER NEVER NEVER DO THIS...

...ask a significant other to give you a hand with bleeding that pesky right rear caliper on the evening of your anniversary.

Whoops. Who knew?

I don't get it, doesn't everyone do that?

NEVER DRAIN THE DIFFERENTIAL FIRST. ALWAYS LOOSEN THE FILL BOLT FIRST. If the fill bolt happens to be stuck and you drain the diff (or transfer case) first, you'll never be able to fill it.

I once filled one by unscrewing the vent fitting on top and pumping in a carefully measured amount of fluid. It was not a fun time.

An old racer trick is to put the fluid in a plastic baggie, stuff it into the diff housing, then put the cover on. The gears tear open the baggie once the axle revolves a time or two. Don't imagine the plastic does the bearings any good, though.
