I have been given a totally rebuilt head all machine work and new parts.
I have no idea what it is worth? Any ideas? Thanks |

I can offer what I spent refurbishing my head.
$500 for machine shop to clean and test the head, machine the bottom surface, replace stems and seals and reasemble. My valves where all in good condition, so none of those were replaced for that price. I also spent $140 to have the cam reground and new aftermarket rockers run about $25 each. Rounding up a bit puts you at about $1000 to rebuild a head. Your cost may vary depending on what parts need to be replaced etc. What is your head worth? First you have to find a buyer, which may take a while. Perhaps $500, maybe more if you find someone who is desperate or less if you are in a rush to sell. |

There are several model 250's out there. You should post the casting number from the center of the head (between 3rd & 4th cylinder) also the "e" number, which is the compression ratio of the stock head (before milling and stuff).
As for machine work and parts, one has to know the machinist. Is he a chevy guy or a benz guy? One has to know the thickness of the head, was it milled on both top and bottom surfaces? Lastly one has to think of warrantee. A shop will guarantee their work and back that up for a months or a year perhaps. That's part of what you're buying from the machinist. A more realistic figure for say an M130 head is like 350$. An M127 would be likely be more, the other 250 motors would likely be less due to the lack of ready buyers. HTH -CTH |
