w109 swap: 1991 M117 for 1972 M117?

Is a 560SEL engine a feasible swap for a tired 4.5?

Paul,

Sure, why not? You will need to convert all the electronic systems over though and I believe you will also have to use the tranny from the later car.

Anything is feasible if you have an unlimited amount of time and money. But it would probably be cheaper to buy a decent 560SEL by the time you got done with AC and engine management.

But isn't the block the same? If so then the fuel and ignition system from the old could be transfered to the newer engine?

I made the same assumption that Rackne did. Since the engines are completely different, I'll revert back to my original plan of a Chevy 454/Turbo 400 swap into a 300SEL 4.5.

Thanks anyway!

Ick, not a chevy. Keep it in the family and get a 6.9

A less invasive swap would be a 500sel or 420sel donor motor.

But you will need most everything under the hood to make it work. The exhaust & drive shaft will have to be custom made. The rest is bolt on.

Why don't you want to put a 4.5 back in it?
