280se 4.5 front brake rotor problem

Well I got the front rotors from fastlane, came quickly, great service. When ordering I was concerned that the rotors wouldnt fit because they were vented and I had solid rotors. I called Phil and he said it would probably work. Well they dont fit. I called my local Mercedes dealer and gave them my Vin# 10806712004962. They looked it up and said the part number for the front rotors was 109 420 00 05. This is the same number on the box that I recived from fastlane, but they dont fit. The rotors were in their original packaging and the Mercedes dealer confirmed that the rotor was indeed vented, so no mix up there. The vented rotors are thicker than the solid ones and therefore dont fit into the slots on the caliper. Any ideas or correct part numbers? The calipers look original, are ATE, and have the hose hook up in the correct place.

Just a suggestion...

Make sure that the pistons are completely pressed back into the caliper. On some brake systems I have worked on, the new rotors have seemed impossibly thick. But as it turned out the pistons were not fully retracted, taking up rotor space.

The 4.5s had vented rotors, so whomever put solid discs on your car did something verrrry verrry wrong.

I agree the pistons are probably not completely retracted.Using the old pad and a pair of channel locks, press the pistons in flush with the caliper. The rotor should then fit.

Problem solved

Thanks for all you replies. Turns out my calipers were off of a 6 cyl 280, thats why they were solid rotors and the vented ones didnt fit. This is what I thought. I got a pair of used calipers off a 4.5 today and everything fits, surprise surprise! Always something interesting...
