broken distributor at my 3.5

3 Attachment(s)
I was wondering why my 3.5 was acting up...was sluggish like a dog, coughing and had no power.
My distributor rotor is broken! In a way I am thankful that the car actually brought me home. No idea why this happened....
So now there is the question where I get this thing in Oman....grrr.
It is part #04018 or # 1234333 (this number is on the broken part.

I would try the dealer. I don't know the extent of the auto parts network in Oman, but if there is a Mercedes dealer there, and there is bound to be, they can get anything you need back to 1949.

My dealer is pretty good on prices for these sorts of things. The fact that it is old is no big deal to them. They just punch in a few numbers and the computer does the rest. When the parts arrive they call me.

And you can always turn to Ebay. Someone on there is bound to have one for sale.

How is the cap? The rotor can break if the cap is put on crooked. Ensure the distributor cap is not damaged too!!

Any 4.5 straight rotor & cap will work. In fact, I think all 100, 111, 108 and 109 V8s and even 116 V8s up to model year 1975 had these rotors & caps. Including the 6.3.

Thanks, good advise.
I'll try again at the dealer. Typically they are very friendly but no way to get parts for this car. They are uneducated in a way, language problems (thing you don't believe) but I can give my best again.

Yes I must have placed the cap crooked ...my fault.
Cap looks okay to me buy I'll double check.

My distributor part number is 0231 302 002.
I was driving for hours to find the distributor rotor- finally I did!
Mercedes had nothing...could order for $130 in 2 weeks...crazy.
Then the guy told me that there is a Bosch shop....another hour of driving...I found it. The guy said he can order the part from Germany ..will cost $20 for Bosch # 1234333177
I ordered...

Now someone told me that the various rotors have a revlimiter but I guess mine doesn't.....

Martin (happy)

Rev limiter does not matter. I had one of those on mine and did not realize it was in there until I replaced it with a "regular" rotor. Crazy prices MB is starting to ask for some of this stuff.

I have two brand new rev-limiter rotors still in boxes, but on my car I use the standard cheap Bosch rotor and cap. No real need for the rev-limiter.

Agree, the rev limiter rotor is really overkill for the autos, maybe a manual could benefit from it. Not worth the extra $!
