This car is hurt really badly

Is it me, or is the buyer very optimistic?

67 300SEL

Shouldn't the person who hit it have paid to fix it?

And that car wasn't a gold mine before it got hit.

They probably paid out and let them keep the title. I've had that happen to me in the past on older cars.

If someone needed it for a parts car.... Maybe.

Being a 109 there would be a market for the rear doors with the 6.3 owners, but that engine would have to run like new for anyone to make out on the deal at his buy it now price.

Of course, if it had limited slip and air suspension it could be worth something to somebody, but it looks like a parts car to me.

Makes me sad... If I had money to burn I would buy it and chop it right behind the front seats and put it in my dream theater room so I can have my own indoor drive in movie theater

He is trying to sell the engine and transmission, separately, in another ebay auction. It is a very nice car but it apears that the rear end damage is fatal. There should be a lot of parts to use and sell but he is asking too much for it all.

I sort of "know" that seller... he's a decent chap but sort of a wild man/ wheeler- dealer. He's way optimistic on that price for that car in that condition. He totally misrepresented my first purchase from him, but it wound up he was only repeating what someone told him about it (so he said), and he DID make it right, paid for return shipping, and gave me some other needed parts for my trouble. I've since bought some other W109 bits from him on private deals and he treated me well. He's a real W109 fanatic.

It's a good parts car but still a total. I'd like to have that M189 and the trans for my '68 230S, but not at the price of the car, and not shipped from FLA to OR.

The insurance thing doesn't pass smell test BS. If he has insurance on another car a new purchase is covered with the same coverage for 30 days.

It is a lovely car but when were the pics taken?

There is heavy structural damage but with a complete shell a skilled body person could cut off one and weld on the other, at great cost of course.

I believe those models do have the air suspension.

That is also an aluminum block big six shared with the contemporary (nearly) 300SL.

It would be cool if someone decided to save it but probably not a good investment unless you own the body shop that can do the work.

The other driver likely was uninsured.

I don't think it's the same engine as the 300SL, it' the same engine as the 300SE (W112) and the 300D(limo).
It was a nice car, but for the money, I would expect a very nice driver.

Well, yes, but it does have the same block and most of the mechanical parts, yes? The 300d limo has an iron block version of the same engine, does it not?

Hi Tom.

It is in the same way that a 3.8 M116 is the same as a 5.6 M117, but it's not the same engine.

It's a nice engine, they are desirable cars, parts cost obscene amounts of money for those engines and they do have some value. If it was the 'same' motor as the 300SL, then it may be worth the money because someone doing a 300SL restoration could use it. As it is, I would think that this is a $2000 car. One may argue that the sum of the parts are worth more, I would agree. I have a perfect black/black 1991 560SEL that I've been trying to sell for $999 dollars without much luck because it needs a head gasket. I could dismantle it and probably make $3000 on the parts, but it would be foolish for me to think that I could sell it for that.

I defer to your superior knowledge! The aluminum block 3 liter is pretty cool though!

Having worked on a Gullwing and a 300SE, you can certainly see the similarities between the two, but almost nothing actually interchanges between the two motors.

Do all 109s have alloy blocks? Because in a 112 some have alloy blocks and some have iron blocks.
