Thing on RH side of 117 block?
I am working on a 117 (4.5) engine and noticed that on the right side in front of the front exhaust port there is something that looks like another blocked off outlet. On the 1976 engine there are actually tubes there that were crimped off (EGR?), on the 72 there is a plate there with one bracket.
What is it? Thanks, Csaba |

Hi. Please tell us the year and model. A picture would help. Thanks

It sounds like you are talking about the hydraulic timing chain tensioner, but a photo of what you are asking about would be a great help.

OK, here are pics, first from the 1976 engine where it looks like someone crimped some tubes shut, then the second with the 'thingie' circled in black.
Both of these bolt on the same place on the block, in front of the frontmost right side exhaust port (outlet). Thanks, Csaba |

Yes that is the timing chain tensioner. Early tensioners do not have the EGR port.
