Removing AC bracket - w108 4.5

Does the A/C compressor need to be removed to get its bracket unbolted from the engine block?
Reason is the crank pulley hits the A/C bracket and won't come off.
Thanks,

Csaba

Answer is no, I was able to remove the bracket without removing the AC compressor from it, but there are some bolts that are hard to find, especially under 40 years of grime.

There are a few difficult to locate bolts-there are 1 or 2 that go into the timing cover and 1 up underneath that can only be felt but not seen. I removed the AC bracket from a 4.5 engine that was out of the car and had trouble. The manual says to remove the compressor and bracket as a unit. I can take a picture of the removed bracket if you like so you can see where the holes are.

I just noticed you got the bracket off-sorry for the uneeded post. hope all goes well with your project.

Just out of curiosity, is it difficult to R&R the A/C compressor in a 108/109? I think I'll be doing this job shortly on mine and curious to know what I'm up against.

David

I did not remove the compressor from its bracket, so I'm not sure.
I removed the compressor from my spare engine, but that is from a '76 SL.
That was not too difficult. You may consider power washing the area so you can see all the bolts.

Vandor, I understand you're in Ft. Worth, correct? I'm in Dallas. Once you get your car up and running, it would be great to see it all put together. Send me a PM sometime and we'll meet up.

Best Regards,

David
