w114 hub cap

Hi,
i have 1971 w114 with original 14" tires.
I want to put bigger rims and tires, maybe 16 or 17 but still keep the original mercedes hub caps.

Do these come in 16 and 17 sizes and if not has anyone modified the factory cap to fit on bigger rims?

Thank you.

There are 15" wheels and hubcaps available. Very pricey. A couple custom 18-20" hubcap look wheels have been done, see the Mercedes Bent SL.

What I might be doing instead of 15" hubcaps is using the throwback wheels on the new beetle. Chrome the actual wheel, and then modify the hubcap to look like a benz part.

Offset for VW wheels will be completely wrong even though the bolt pattern is probably the same. Currently 15" hubcaps NEW from Mercedes are $230 or so, and new 14" hubcaps from Mercedes (reissue) are something like $400 each. The 15" hubcaps are very limited so if you want some get them now. The problem is that the 15" Mercedes steel wheel is 5.5" wide. I don't know if the hubcaps will fit on a later W126 fatter 15" wheel... Nor do I know if the offset will work.

if your wondering about wheel fitment, I'm running 18x8.5 +42 , 18x9.5 +46 AMG monoblocks on my w115 with no fitment issues, I'm running 15mm spacer in the front and 20mm in the back to clear the wheel wells. no fender rolling needed and no rubbing, but will be lowering it tomorrow

Post some pix and tell us how you plan to lower it.
