Djet dist

So before I joined this forum, I read a lot on D-jetronic, as I had just bought my W108. I couldn't really find anything other then generic examples or very specific information on D jet (Porsche stuff). I stumbled across posts from TOMGUY, MeltedPanda and others that were very helpful. anyway, after living with D jetronic for over a year now and being stranded and forced to sleep in My W108 one cold march night last year, I have come to the conclusion that I like this crude old fuel injection setup. I recently tore apart my dist, in an attempt to thwart my constant trigger point oil contamination. The seal in the base of the dist and tight clearances within are supposed to prevent oil from climbing the shaft. with a few odd miles 100K or so these things wear down. the seal was rock hard, so I drilled the pin out of the base, pulled the shaft out, cleaned the surfaces and made a new fiber seal.

and then I thought what if I silicone the inside of the dist to create another seal... where the lobes meet the dist body....

I put a little silicone on the body where you slide the shaft down into it, the theory being that the silicone will not stick to the shaft, but ride inside like an actual seal. I greased the shaft, then slid it into the body. I was unsure whether the original pin in the base was a roll pin or not, and the picture shows the old seal,the washer that covers the seal, the new roll pin, and part of the old pin. after putting it all together, I have no more oil contamination. it seems to work just fine. we'll see how well it holds up over time. its a little tricky to get the pin out of the base, you'll certainly need a punch and probably a drill press. but once its out, it's really pretty easy. hope its helpful to someone, if you've got a D jet car, this is bound to happen to it.

Is the seal NLA? How did you make a fiber seal?
I'll have to check inside my dizzy for oil...

the oil contamination is an issue , later TP had covers ,and improved over the original TP
but the issue does exist even with those. Let us know how it works. As you know distributor "wobble" affects this as well ( worn shaft)

I find it very unusual if your tolerances/bushings are okay and you had oil up there inside the distributor. I never head of a seal.
yes I had the gear apart as well. you have to use mild steel dia 4.0mm for a new pin and peen this new pin back into place.
I was not successful to change my bushings. the lower bushing was kind of a carbon, very brittle stuff. I remember I wanted to change the bushing an expected a brass sleeve. But found something very different- who knows what the material is actually? .

Yeah I know, I bought a spare R107 dizzy from ebay and found this out. pretty sure all my dizzy's have shaft wobble. although with a new seal and the silicone wedged into it, the shaft play seemed minimal. I have no idea if the seal is still available or not, just that I wasn't going to look for it. I just figured since there isnt much in the way of aftermarket support for D jet stuff the seal would be NLA. I just used some fiber gasket material to make the seal, its reasonably thick. the shaft and bushings inside were a fairly tight fit and I was not entirely sure how that is lubricated either. the oil contamination I had is probably from wear in the cylinders as well, it was like even if I cleaned em, after a day of driving they were contaminated. it was dripping oil from the dizzy and eating through gas. buying 8 quarts of oil everytime the trigger points were really contaminated isnt exactly cheap operating cost.
