Sun Valley Mercedes Rebuilt Transmissions

Has anyone ever dealt with Sun Valley Mercedes in terms of their rebuilt transmissions? I was quoted $1500 for a rebuilt trans and TC, $300 shipping, and they'll pay the freight to send my core...I couldn't believe it. Is this too good to be true? Even with the exchange, that's really the best price I've seen.

Anyone have any problems with them?

the next highest quote I've received is 2500.00 + 495 R&R that's Local.
the highest quote was from a company in Calgary who quoted me $3500 for a rebuilt unit with NO torque converter How much was the Torque converter? New, $455 $500 shipping, No thanks.

That is exactly what I paid for my rebuilt transmission at Mr. MB Motors in Tarzana, CA, and he gets them from Sun Valley Mercedes. They come with a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty.

As far as I know, Sun Valley is THE place that rebuilds transmissions for all the shops.

The rebuild of the transmission on my old '94 E320 was flawless.

Sun Valley is the place to go. Great service, great reputation, great follow-up. And an excellent price.

Ok, we'll I think I know where I'm getting my transmission!! Even being a Canadian, way up here, I can't beat that price.

this is just a note to say that nothing has changed. this is a fantastic place to purchase a transmission for your Mercedes, vintage or otherwise. Marc gives personal service with the kind of integrity that is lacking in this day and age. it actually cost LESS to have my 722.416 transmission shipped to me in Washington State, than to have a local rebuilder do the job. not only that, but all the little things(bowden cable, kick-down solenoid) on the outside of the transmission were included at no extra price. the new transmission works as well or BETTER than the original ever did. Sun Valley only charged me $1750 for the transmission and $175 for shipping. there was no core charge, and they paid to pick up the core. this is an amazing deal. if you need a transmission, this is the place!

They probably manage these prices because of the volume of business they do.

Anything shipped into Canada from the US is expensive. 35% exchange rate, shipping, brokerage, sales tax and duty. If you can pick it up and bring it back across yourself it would be far less. If you're commercial, your forked.

Have not bought from them, but spoke to someone there earlier this week and he was super helpful. I ended up buying a new unit from the dealer but Sun Valley provided a lot of helpful insights.

If it was a rebuilt trans from a dealer, there is a good chance that Sun Valley rebuilt it.

This one shipped from Germany and allegedly is a new unit not a reman, but yeah good point for the OP, they're good enough to supply remans to Mercedes themselves.

TIA,
When I purchased a transmission from them two months ago I asked the owner if they could install it as well, the owner told me they don’t work on cars, just rebuilding transmissions.

I guess they don't do that anymore. They installed mine but that was probably 10 years ago.

Wow, they used to install the transmissions. They must have run into too much trouble from people blaming them for unrelated parts failing afterward. "Ever since you installed the transmission, my car has been pulling to the right! I think you need to fix it or I'm going to write a bad review."
