MB coolant A0009890825
 

I thought MB coolant is yellow but now I learned that the new color is blue with the same part number.
Here in Oman I only get the blue stuff and I think this is okay.
Who knows about what chemicals are behind the A 0009890825.
Is this G48 from BASF?

Glysantin G 48 is an engine coolant concentrate based on ethylene
glycol. It contains
a hybrid corrosion inhibitor package with salts of
organic acids and silicates. Glysantin G 48 is free of nitrites, amines
and phosphates.

of both ferrous and aluminium construction again

Glysantin G 48 should possibly not be mixed with silicate free, OAT
engine coolants.
Glysantin G 48 must be diluted with water before use. It is hard water
compatible and can be mixed with tap water*
before filling into the
cooling system to give solutions in the concentration range of 33 to
50 % by volume.

if MB coolant is identical with G48 from BASF it can be diluted even with mineral water with Chloride and Sulphate max 100mg/l or 100 ppt and Water hardness 0 to 20°dGH (03.6 mmol/l). Who can confirm?

from some internet research Glysantin G48 from BASF is identical with Mercedes coolant !

Glysantin G48 is BASF chemical compond, is common, also exists type "G05"

Colour is hard to tell, it is not colour of the compound but more like an additive colour so same coolant can be yellow, blue green etc

In any event Mercedes coolant probably is based on G48 (or maybe G05) and in theory any G48-based coolant should be essentially identical

It seems G05 is "particularly recommended for iron blocks... and MB sheet 325.0" so maybe ist besser

But anyway you can probably just put anything in there with you out in ME, just put something so the water doesn't rust the block (maybe a little antifreeze of virtually any type)

G48 is the BMW stuff. Provided that you flush your coolant often, the green stuff is just fine. It's the requirement for longer service intervals that bought about the need for long life coolant formulas such as G05.

Even the green stuff that's available today has different chemistry to the stuff that was available in the 70's when these cars were new and is unlikely to cause the damage that the old stuff did if left for too long.

It seems that G-05 is the yellow stuff (Zerex G-05 seems to be identical:http://www.englefieldoil.com/PDF/Zerex_chart.pdf) and I have seen a lot of yellow coolant in MBs.
I would have bought G-05 but it is not available here in Oman.
So I bought G-48 (A 0009890825) Blue green stuff that is also used in Bimmers.
Maybe there is not much difference at all between the two for our purposes.

Ford Motorcraft Premium Gold is also the same as Zerex G-05 (i think zerex actually supplies Ford with it). Easy to find at any Ford Dealer in the U.S.; not sure about Oman though

Yes, I found the yellow Ford coolant... but it is overpriced ...and I already have the blue MB stuff in. Cooling is working well now on my car.

Off-topic, but do you find that the car still stays cool idling with the A/C on? mine peaks up to the second mark. Also, after completely going through your A/C system, do you find it keeps YOU cool enough in the Oman heat?

I imagine if your car can keep you cool in Oman mine should work in Dallas, TX.

after cleaning out the radiator completely (If I had to do it again I'd give it to a radiator shop and had them do the job: de-solder and clean the veins, then re-solder), new thermostat and new coolant, new fan clutch, I have no problem whatsoever. My temps slightly rise at idle (A/C is always on) to maybe 190 but typically never reaches the 212, also the aux fan typically never kicks in during driving because of that. I think the fan clutch is the key and good clean radiator.
My AC blows ice cold, I am surviving in Oman. Texas should be a piece of cake.

For US guys, you can get Zerex G05 for about $21 a gallon from Amazon.com. If you have Amazon Prime that prices includes free 2 day shipping. It beat a 45 minute drive to a town that MIGHT have had it in stock.

They have two G05 listings. the $16 jug is 50/50. Make sure you order the right one.

Crud! I just noticed that Peach Parts sells it also! $22 a gallon. I wish I would have check. I would have bought it from here first. A gallon or two of that plus some other parts I need and I could have hit $75 easy!
