Tire size for '74 280C
Finally got mine up and running and it's time for tires. I'm sure a lot of you old timers are tired of this question...but.. what is the best size tire for my 280C?

I think that the factory size is 185/14. I have 205/70/14 on mine which is the same as what's used on the SL's. They're wider but ride fine and more readily available.

For the stock 14" I'm using 195/70/14. Still room for a bigger sidewall to 75/80 if its available, or 65/70 on a 15".

thanks for the info
Thanks for the info. I just realized that there is an entire thread section for tires and wheels. Sorry should have posted there. Did I gather from your post that there is room (and a way) to convert to 15"?

I had 15" aftermarket rims on my '74 280C when I first got it. I've got later model 15" stock rims on my '85 W126.
I didn't like the way the 15"'s made the W114 handle and ride so I went back to the 14"'s. It wasn't bad but it just felt, "different". Hard to explain but it could have been the tires also. Either way, the 15" tires won't fit in the spare mounting area.

Again, I am loving this forum! Anyone know what this tire is? I know it's a Kelly Springfield tire but can't seem to find it at Kelly webpage.
