w108 motor mounts

Own a 1970 280sel with an m129 engine and head(not m130).
Removed my motor mounts this morning but can seem to align the new ones. One of the old motor mounts was badly collapsed. Now I'm wondering if I should have removed and replaced one at a time. What could of gone wrong? I need about 1 inch on the left side(when looking from the front of the car) and about 1/4 inch on the right. The problem is that if I align one side the other side gets completely thrown out of alignment. I tried positioning a round pointed screw driver thru the ARM opening and the motor mount opening to align it but I stopped because I was afraid I might ruin the motor mount threads.. I lowered the engine weight on the motor mounts to see if the weight will help aligning such openings....Any suggestions or recommendations greatly appreciated...I am not able to upload pictures on this forum but I can say that the news look like the old ones except for one of the old motor mounts being completely collapsed. That difference in height (approx 1") between the old mount and new mount I guess makes all the difference where lowering the engine 1 more inch would better align the engine arm to the engine mount. Any advice greatly greatly appreciated. the Engine arm has a visible part number stamped 180 223 2504 280SE/280S R. The other engine arm number is not visible due to the fuel filter housing being in the way. The old mounts have a mercedes logo stamped on the rubber followed with part number 1082230112 and the new mounts have a number 0140220001 stamped on the rubber but packaged in a Meyle bag that has a reference number 1082230112. Should I order new ones from the classic center?

Got the driver side mount in. Now I have to somehow shift the engine 1 inch towards the drivers side to align the passenger side motor mount to the frame...This is hard.

You didn't say how you're supporting the engine and I don't think you're letting it rest on the subframe by the sound of it. If you have a jack under the engine, I hope it has wheels

If not, use (or borrow) a floor jack with wheels. Put a 2x4 between the jack and oil pan so you don't kill the pan. Don't lift too high, just pick up the engine an inch or so. Use a long crowbar to jimmy the engine where it needs to be. Likely the rear mount (AKA "Transmission mount") is also collapsed leading to positioning hassles with new front mounts.

Engine is supported by the floor jack and piece of wood under the oil pan. Had to start over and this time installed and secured the passenger side motor mount. I managed to get 1 allen motor mount bolt and the center 19mm align thru the support arm and motor mount. The allen bolt nearest the fuel filter housing is not yet aligned and I'm having trouble starting the bolt due to no overhead room. I will probably have to use an allen wrench or a shorter socket to position on top of the allen bolt. Looks hard. I might lift and lower the engine a few more times to see if that helps align the bolts. Feel free to advise
