W108 DESTROYED on reality TV show
So I don't know how many people here may watch this, but there's a reality TV show on Spike called "World's Worst Tenants." A disgruntled evicted tenant lifted what appeared to be a fairly good condition Horizontblau W108 with a forklift, puncturing the undercarriage fuel lines. He dropped it, landing on its roof, and the car caught on fire.
The teaser image & video is here @ 2:46: Tweet With Todd, Rick & Randye Tonight During ?World?s Worst Tenants? | World's Worst Tenants | SPIKE I can't seem to find a clip of the segment in section but needless to say the car was totaled.I was unable to make out what type of 108 it was, but it doesn't appear to be a 109.

It's a shame to see any car destroyed for entertainment, especially a vintage MB.

Unfortunately, the 6-cyl W108s have been one of the more popular models whenever some movie or TV-show producer wants a vintage Mercedes to trash, crash or blow-up!
A few years back, some idiot 'reality' show (I think it was 'Celebrity Rehab') had one of their 'guest stars' take a sledgehammer to a silver W108 as some sort of anger managemment therapy. Stupid flaky Hollywood crowd has nothing better to do than destroy a nice, apparently rust-free vintage California car. While here on the east-coast, all we usually find are well-salted. swiss-cheese examples! Happy Motoring, Mark

I know the owner of the vehicle has the choice to do whatever they want to with it but I think there should be laws preventing the destruction of classic cars such as this.

That's just wrong....though they first show a powder blue example then the white one....its possible it was a shell or something that couldn't be registered because of red tape....I have to hope it was a shell...that whole show is staged too...

The hangover movie trashed a bunch of coupes converted to convertibles. 8-9 I think I read somewhere. Makes me sick.

Quote:
I say staged and a low $ car was bought to make the show. If you knew when / where the event occurred you might be able to pull fire dept logs to see if they were on scene before or after the fire. And, I'd think that the guy on the lift would be charged with property destruction and maybe arson due to the ensuing fire. As for old cars being used up, one can't save them all ( I've tried ). There is stock footage from 70's TV shows that has an E type going over a cliff. Back then they were not worth much but are now. Locally there are a lot of 80's - 90's MB barges in the $ 2 to 4 k range that remain unsold so few would lament their loss as no one has bought then after 3 years of being advertised. ( and of course the ads say " Bullet proof glass. . ." ) |

FWIW my own father punctured the lines on my 108 when he lifted it years ago and put blocks under it by the rusted rockers/floorboards instead of at the unibody rails. I can tell you it definitely poured out gas from those lines
