m117 dipstick tube seal?

Hi, does anybody know if the m117 engine (4.5 liter V8, iron block) uses any kind of dipstick tube seal, or does the dipstick tube just push into the oil pan?
Thanks,

Csaba

I think there's a small felt seal right at the top of the dip stick, just under the handle.

If there is not a seal there I would install one. A simple O-ring would be better than nothing.

Oil does slosh against the point where the tube enters the block. A friend of mine once asked me to come over and hear the noise his engine was making. His 240D had a bearing knocking and a quick look into the oil soaked engine compartment showed that the dipstick tube had come out and most of the oil had just spilled out of the hole in the block.

So a small gasket would be in order here.
