Help - W108 Brake Light Bulbs Stuck

I was going to change out the brake light bulbs to LEDs. However, I broke one bulb into two (the glass part came out) and the other one was also stuck in the holder. Any one have any ideas on how to get the metal end out of the socket. I tried using a nose plier to twist the metal part of the bulb loose. It did not move. Could I spray WD40 to loosen it.

Thanks.

Either it corroded in the socket (been there) or the lead/tin on the end of the bulb fused to the contacts (been there too). Use needle-nosed pliers to bend the entire base inwards. It's also possible if you're talking about the double-bulb (brake/tail) that someone put it in backwards which makes them REALLY tough to remove unless you push down REALLY FAR and hard.

Okay I managed to get the old bulb base out and replaced with a new LED bulb. I also ordered the rubber gaskets from the Classic Center and a some more questions. The new brake light LED makes a real difference in illumination.

1. The old seals have crumbled into dust and there are some remains stuck on the lens. Do the seals attached to the lens or the biulb holder.

2. I want to clean out the inside reflector part of the bulb holder but need to detach the two wire connectors. How these come off. I tried pulling and then pushing them up, am I missing something.

Thank you.

any followup on how these are working? I am getting tired of replacing bulbs every few months, never had a car that burned out various rear end bulbs as much as this W124.....

File this under 'nobody cares': I replaced a taillight bulb in my 1968 car the other wknd that had 'W. Germany' on the base and assume it was original to the car.

I've got some led's in place and they seem to work well. I thought the light they provide was inoffensive - I thought they would look horrible and Pep Boys-ish, but they have been good thus far.

They have been working great. I drive the car religiously twice a week on a 10 mile round trip around town.

The bulbs light up evenly and are a slightly brighter compared to the incandescent ones that came with the car. They look good when lighted just like the OEM's but a little brighter. They definitely do not have the PEP Boys look.

When my turn signal bulbs go they will be next to be replaced with LED's.

Car is at the mechanic getting some TLC but I will take some night time pics and post when I get the old girl back.
