VIN not on chassis rail
So, I know where to look for the VIN on my 1967 250SE Cab but it is NOT there. I'm looking to this forum for any information that might explain why my car does not have a VIN stamped in the usual place. It's not a euro spec car, it's american and the right front chassis rail where most of these vintage cars had the VIN stamped is clean
Aside from the (remote) possibility that the frame rail was replaced, are there any MB factory explanations? Or any explanations for that matter Thanks

I did a google search and this site came up. Perhaps it is helpful:

Yes, I found these guys already and they said maybe the frame rail was replaced...so perhaps that's all it is. Alternatively they suggested scraping down the rail but I don't see that as the solution because the paint would have to be awfully thick to be covering a typical stamping - maybe I'll be surprised.
Thanks.
