1958 220S speedometer markings
 

Would anyone know the purpose of the three small dots on the face of the speedometer?

The "hash marks" I II and III indicate maximum speeds in first, second, and third gear.

But what does the white dot near 10mph, green dot near 20, and yellow (?) near 30 indicate?

The owners manual, a PDF of which is on-line, only says 'the red dots are recommended shift points'.

yep - shift points are clearly marked with the red "hash marks". But even the workshop manual seems to ignore those three colored dots. Could be down-shift marks, but why the different colors unless there's some color-code to the gears?

I think the dots are for cars with the Hydrak clutch.

Btw, that sure is a nice looking instrument cluster and dash, do you have the ivory or black steering wheel?

I agree there must be something to them and it would be nice to find out what they are for.

Have you dropped a query to the Classic Center? You can't be the only person who is wondering about this.

I was told by a speedometer repair shop they were for calibration use. Made sense to me.
