w108 right side mirror?

Did they ever come with one? I thought I've seen that style mirror on the right side, but it may have been on a 280SL.
I really miss it. I installed one on my other old car years ago, so I am really used to having one.

I found one for my W114 250C. Actually bought two. DAWTWO had a used one he sold me, then another poster had a NOS one I picked up.

Think about this: The RH door mirror would be a standard feature of any car with RH drive, so they are out there. Just wasn't a very popular option when these cars were new here in the USA. Perhaps someone on the list in a RH drive country can come up with one for you....

They did come with one as an option. Remember that there are two shapes (early and later) for the mirror.

Here is mine:

I'd love to have one if anyone finds a source. Thanks.

The only issue is that you may want to go to a glass shop and have convex glass cut to fit. Otherwise you'll have flat driver's side glass and you will have a limited field of vision (it'll be fairly useless, especially as small as a 108 mirror is).

Quite true, for me it was mostly for the look. Symmetry and all :)

I do have a W108 right side mirror installed in my 1967 fintail station wagon, but I would only trade it for a right side second-version W110/W111 sedan right side mirror. They look nearly identical, other than the base has a slightly different curve to it, which makes it set closer to the window than the left side.

That's what I was thinking. I had to do something like that for my other car.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I had one on a W109, also RHD cars have them. Pretty expensive and you have to take the door apart to bolt one up, but it may be worth while.

MB has convex glass already cut for the later mirrors. I have the convex on both sides.

The problem I see is that the placement of a passenger side mirror on a W108 (or W114 early) is that if you match it to where it is on the driver side, you get little to no view of the mirror. I have seen more than once a 114 with a driver side mirror on the door and a passenger side mirror on the front fender...

Trivia for the kids on here: Hence the term "wing mirror", since the mirrors were mounted (typically both sides) on the panels (fenders) called wings by the Brits. The mirrors moved backwards as time marched forwards, and they grew and grew til finally they became faired in appendages.

I know Scooter also remembers the days of having to sit in the seat, look across the hood at the little round mirrors on the fenders, get out, walk around, adjust, and repeat a few times. Not that we are that old, we just like those kinds of cars. :D

R side mirror

I bought one on Ebay right after I bought my coupe. I see them there pretty regularly. I had thought of having a convex mirror cut to fit it and just never got around to it-this is a good reminder.

I certainly do NOT remember those days! :) Also, the Mercedes cars that I have seen sometimes DO have a door mirror on the driver side and a wing mirror on the passenger side...
