electric fuel pump for w110 PLEASE HELP!
 

Did a little oopsie on the weekend and now I need to replace my fuel pump on my 1962 mercedes benz 190c with solex carb. I will be going electric on a switch with a 2-4 psi electric fuel pump. Should I purchase a Holley 1-4 psi adjustable fuel pressure regulator or is it really not needed? Please help

I installed a Carter electric pump (5070, iirc) on my 230 and it was rated at 5psi. I also worried about over pressure. I have a filter and a check valve downstream of the pump so I reckon they provide some reduction in the line, although I haven't measured the pressure.

At any rate, the car runs fine with no flooding or problems of any kind. It probably helps that I had rebuilt the carbs with new float valves. I suspect the system is pretty forgiving on the pressure in general and with a well-functioning return line there should be no problems. (Does the single Solex have a return line?) I say try it without the regulator and see what happens.

The only downside is that the pump is rather noisy. I've gotten used to it, though.

Solex does not have a return the excess fuel just goes on to this drip plate. There is a thin line that goes from the carb to the distributor, im no mechanic so i couldnt tell you what that is called. so other than that thats all i see on my carb.

I don't think you want the excess fuel going onto the drip plate. Really, under normal conditions there should be no excess fuel. Excess fuel finds its way down into the manifold and then into the cylinders, which washes the lubrication away and ends up in the oil pan. Not good. I always thought that the drip plate was for fuel leaking at the carb seams and wear at the throttle bushings.

I did have a condition with my Solexes where the float wouldn't seat right and fuel dripped out of the run orifice when shutoff. But that was fixed with new float valves.

The line that you see is a vacuum line that actuates the distributor advance at idle. It's not directly related to the fuel system.

I managed to install the electric fuel pump, car is running super rich now. What can I do to troubleshoot this, I am a newbie to this so any pictures or further directions would help alot. How do i check the floats and how do I see that everything is running well.
