Well, those are not the proper drawings to make a reproduction of the car. I'm sure the classic center can charge you for them, or not. I'm leaning towards the not going to happen part unless you are a certified Mercedes Benz dealership or collision repair center. We can't have 540K copies running around, it would severely tarnish the brand.

He may be making a model for all we know, there are locals with supreme knowledge of those cars but until we know more of his needs it's difficult to offer much else.

Hasn't the copyright expired?

They're pretty useless cars anyway. Can't take them to Costco or Home Depot, can't valet park them, can't lend them to the neighborhood summer camp as a field trip vehicle... Useless, I tell ya'...simply useless.

Thumbs up Mercedes 540 K

Hello folks.
Wondering why I need the blueprints.
Well - I've got a Mercedes 300 1952 I have owned for 36 years.
And no since we dont use the car any more I thought I could use the money to built a Mercedes 540K on a frame from a 170V from 1940.
I have got the permission from the authorities for cars here in Norway to accept this project.I will use a straight eight engine from an early 50 ties Buick.
A suitable transmission - and may be front and rear suspension from Height or other distributors.Original instrument can be special ordered and maked- headlamps from England, also special made. The body and frame will be my job++++.Well this is may be an ambisious aim, but I know myself - I CAN DO IT !!
Best Steinar

Those cars are solid enough where they would last although the luxury appointments such as leather etc. would wear over time.

Biggest issue is soft engine parts such as bearings, since MB took the cheap way out unlike Hispano Suiza and used babbit half-shell bearings. HS used needle and ball bearing kits like the Citroen A engine or the Saab 95 3 cylinder or the Panhard sports cars. You could practically run those on Mazola oil because the actual friction was so much less between hardened steel ball-bearings and crank or con rod surfaces.

The only thing that saved the existence of the flat bearing was the improvements in the technology that enables better bearings with imbedability and new designs.

That plus the odd-sized tires. I have machined hub adaptors for my antique (1930's) Citroen since it's too expensive to find odd-sized metric tires and tubes, then get them exported to the US. The machined hubs enable use of 165-15 rims and tires. Big savings, since I need 15 of them!

Too bad your Adenauer is so far away. I've had two and had to sell them after the Tech bubble crash of 1999.

One question: How much weight will your 170V frame accept, given the front transverse leaf springs? and what about brakes?

A suggestion: A Mercedes M180 series engine, made from 1952 to 1973(?) could be used and might actually fit without major modification. Or even a OM617.95X turbo model, plenty of power, not to heavy enabling a manual trans.

Whatever you do, good luck on your project!

Hi.
As I said concerning the suspension, I am going to use may be Heith suspension in front and also in rear. They comes with big disc brakes.
The frame must of coarse be strengthened and built more like the original 540 K.
Engine - no doubt -straight eight as the original.
