1967 Mercedes Transmission woes

1967 230 transmission clunk into 1st, and oil change ? - Page 2 - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum

This is where I have gotten so far with this saga. Any input from my peach friends?

Quick briefing

Took car to mechanic to have Zeniths rebuilt on my 1967 Mercedes 230 Automatic

Car came back and had a rough shift into 1st upon coming to a stop.

Everyone suggested adjusting "idle lifting switch" on carbs.

My mechanic was unfamiliar so I sent him the link and he said he did it, but nothing changed (Suggested a shift module on trans maybe bad)

Picked up from mechanic and now noticing it still clunks into that first gear, but now on accell and the switch to the 2nd gear it revs up and jumps into gear.

Car doesn't slip in any other situations, shifts are firm and crisp all other times,

What should I be looking for now?

I don't know a lot of specifics about w111s, but these thoughts came to my mind:
-Isn't this transmission supposed to take off in 2nd, and only shift into 1st if you floor it?
-If the problem started right after some work was done it's likely related to that work.

Technically the car is a W110 (Not much difference)

So it could be clunking when shifting back down from 3rd to 2nd (Which is its 1st I guess)

I am going to drive her some more tomorrow and confirm its starting in 2nd like it should.

Keep the input alive!

My roommate's 1965 W111 220S with automatic transmission slams when downshifting when coming to a stop. We were told for a while that the older Mercedes transmissions are supposed to slam harshly because they don't have torque converters...

Then later on I heard that there are supposed to be throttle position sensors that help the transmission to downshift smoothly. His car has new dual Weber carburetors installed by a previous owner, so who knows how to fix it now...

Little HG:

Have a look at this information from a series of posts in Jan. of this year.
It covers the K4A025 transmission and required adjustments.
The original trans for your car is the K4A025, it is a 4-speed, and it starts in 1st.
Both the electrical and mechanical adjustments are very important to smooth shifting.

Well it seems when put in 4th or D. The car does start in 2nd. So the downshift is that 3 - 2 downshift when coming to a stop.

The jumping out of gear when shifting went away today? Weird stuff

I stand corrected; K4A025 does start in 2nd gear.
