What is a 250S?

I was looking on ebay and found a 1976 250S. What is this? What is the difference from a 250 and a 250S?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1812293249

Thanks for your help,

The 250S is a 2.5 liter, 6-cylinder, carburetor-equipped version of the w108 chassis. I'm sure you have seen other versions of this chassis around town (250SE, 280S, 280SE, 280SE 4.5, etc.)

This was MB's full-size sedan of it's era, larger than the w114 chassis (250, 280, 220D, etc.).

I didn't think mercedes benz made a 250 series in 1976 let alone a 108.

It is a 108.012 chassis.
1965-69-75,000 built.
Nice old 108, but carbs were troublesome on them. The SE was injected.
Did not get a bid, so it has been relisted at $1500 opening.
Look for rust ....

Last of the swing axle /kink pin suspension Benzs.

I believe a company named JAM Engineering (not sure of exact name) makes a Zenith-to-Weber conversion kit that resolves the carb problem.

I actually prefer the 6-cylinder model to the 8's. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up a 4-speed 1969 280S I saw last year. It needed front fenders and I shied away. Then I found out how difficult it is to find a good 4-speed w108.

I have a 69 230/8, the W114 chassis, with a 4 speed manual. Love the standard. Hate the meager power.

The lack of power meant they had to gear the car to get it to move off the line, so on the highway at speed its louder than my kids. It has the same Zeniths as the 250S and I find them not bad at all. (once I discovered the source of most of my trouble was loose bolts mounting the manifolds!)

I'll keep my eyes open around here for a 250S, I couldn't buy one sight unseen off E-bay. especially if I have to pay with Canadian dollars!

There goes the sticky fingers agin!! The 250S sure looks nice! I thought it had something to do with the W114 body, but I guess not. I wish I could have it!

'twas the first of the many 108 cars and to some, a great car. It is the last to have wood all around the windshield. It has the same zeniths as your model 250 (give or take a jet or two).

The 108s are very lovely cars.

It's got more horses, not sure how many more. Has less wood though.

The 114-250 was still sold outside the US after 1972 and continued after the changeover to the 123 chassis. They used a single cam six with the 4V solex. In the early '90s I found a grey-market '79 250 4 speed on a dealer lot. Unfortunately the tranny was very noisy, so I passed.

Get out!

A 1979 114 car? Did they make any coupes past 1976? When did they stop making the 114's?

What I meant to say was - The 114-250 continued after 1972, outside the US, and the 250 continued after the changeover to the 123 series, as a 123 model. The '79 250 I checked out was a 123 body.
