M110 280 Auto Trans Capacity??
Hey Guys,
Anyone know how many quarts of fluid a mid-70's 280C M110 4pd automatic transmission needs on a fluid/filter change? For some reason I can't find this ANYWHERE. I have 2 engine manuals & the body & chassis manual, but the service manual or trans manual. Google & search here have turned up nothing... Thanks! |
If the vehicle is an early 1973 280 it will have a 722.2xx (K4C025) trans.
Drain trans and fluid coupling, & refill - 5.5L (5.8Q) If a late 280 the trans will be a 722.1xx (W4B025) Drain & refill trans and torque converter - 6.6L (7Q) The early trans (722.2xx) starts in 1st gear, the late (722.1xx) in 2nd. |
Hmm. Have to try to check the data plate. I'm pretty sure it starts in 1st. And it's a short bumper car, so I would assume it falls into the 'early' category.
I'm not draining the torque converter on this change. Fluid smelled like it's been a while since the last change & I don't want to risk 'cleaning' the clutches too much in one go. So it looks like it'll be an educated guess & then adj based on dipstick reading... EDIT: It's a 1973. |
Any ideas on the capacity of the torque converter?

All '73s will have short bumpers.
On the right side of the trans case casting, just above the pan gasket joint, the trans model #, part#, and serial# are stamped into the pan rail. Fluid coupling capacity - 1L Torque converter cap. - 1.3L |
