W114 lowering springs
hi,
short of cutting the springs, heating them up or doing some other trickery is there a set of lowering springs for the W114? i always thought the front of these cars are just too high. any suggestions to lower the car but not sacrifice too much of the ride? Thank you. |

I cut one coil off my front. It matches the saggy rear height perfectly now. No change in ride at all.

I will post a pic soon. But I got the idea to cut the springs from the owner of a mercedes repair shop. He had two mid 70's 280c's I looked at. one he cut 1 coil off and the other he cut 1.5 coils off. He felt the 1.5 was too much but the 1 coil cut was the perfect height.
First, you should measure each side from the ground to bottom of wheel arch to see if you are starting from an equal point. I didn't document the process. But I cut the coil above exactly where the coil below ends. That's it. I removed the lower A arm by marking the position of the eccentric bolt heads on the lower A arm and removing them. Then with a floor jack dropping the a arm down and removing the spring. It was pretty easy.
