My 1961 220s "Restoration"

Excited to be a part of this forum and learn from some of you.
This is my first "Restoration" and i use " " because i'm not a showroom, Factory Original, stripped frame kind of guy. This car will be driven like it was intended rain or shine (mostly on weekends hahaha). My only prerequisite is it look good enough, drive safe enough and be reliable enough.... if you get my drift.

I always loved the design of the older Mercedes so this was a treat.. i'll be doing all the work myself  :D

These are from the first weeks of having the car..

"New" Engine

Where i'm at currently:

interior removed
Rust cut out and patching in new metal.
Old engine removed (was seized)
prepping New Engine (M130 250c) for testing (carbs, leaks, etc) before installing
Transmission cleaned up
Flywheel refinished
Refinishing wood trim and Dash pieces (that Veneer is touchy...)

Thanks guys... Love reading all the Post!

Different car but here's a tip for the wood

I for one would love to see the holes and the welding!

Good luck

Thanks for the link, very helpful. i was scanning through some of that last week i believe.

I'll post some of the floorboards and wheel wells soon..
(I know how people are, especially certain types. I'm no professional welder but ive welded enough things to create a secure, solid, perment bond.) The great thing is the outside is in pretty good condition, in the pictures the grey on the paint is dust. It seems like i just need to clean, clay bar and polish her.

Ya gotta forgive Stretch for his obsession with "rust". He's harmless but does seem to be almost manic when it comes to iron oxide.:D

Mike - Lol.. you know once you start searching, grinding and cutting it does become a bit of an obsession. I try to think about.. "while the engine is out" "While its like this" might as well get in there..i try to keep how far i want to go and my goals for the car in mind. hahah

Mike you don't know the half of it - just wait until I get across the boarder and move into your ISO container...

...whoa ha ha ha ha...

I think you put the new engine in backwards. Don't the carbs go on the other side?

:D

Keep sharing pics of the project. Looks like a nice one. Enjoy the ride...

Cheers,

Pat
