Springs shop did it
He has done hundreds over the years He heats up the lower portion of the spring and drops down Lots will argue not the proper way but easy drop in few minutes and the front is not as loose No cutting no removal not even the tires for someone who has done it Again, proper way is lowering shocks and springs which in my case ordered from Europe would have costed over 3000 Here is another pic |

Thanks for the info - sounds interesting! I have a 69 w115 and the front rides High - I was going to remove and cut a coil off, but your method is much easier and in some ways you could control the amount of lowing be how much you heat. No coil shop around me though, don't know if I would want to try it myself . .
Thanks for the feedback!

In my opinion, this is the best way to solve the saggy butt syndrome of these cars. I don't know what the european ride height is, but my guess is it's close to your new height.
I didn't heat my springs, instead, I cut one coil off, which matched the rear exactly.

Well, I will consider both options, I may cut a single coil. I only have a propane torch, tough I have friends who have welding rigs. I was curious to see what size spring shim my car has too, I do have a new shim that is pretty thin. My car had the ac removed, I know that lightens the front too. The rear does not seem too lw, but the front sure sits high and it really bugs me.
Thanks for the input!

I couldn't stand the high nose, just hated it, i knew it was not right for the car.
i love it now, what a difference. heating is the easiest way, cutting the springs will give the same results but way more work and the chance of the springs popping in your face is always there if you are not careful. I'm so glad i did the heating, plus if the car doesn't sit right after you cut the rings you have to take them out again, with heating you can always correct as needed. i have to say, this is the first mod for this model that needs to be done before anything else. |
