W115 dash differences?

1 Attachment(s)
Anyone know which models/model years of W115's featured wooden dash trim and which ones did have the all plastic?
Looking to buy a nice W115 but most have the ugly all plastic dash, needless to say I'd rather not watch it on my daily commute.

Maybe this could be a regional difference, most W115 in Sweden seems to have plastic dashes. See attached image for example.

Might have found my answer; appears only 250, 280 and coupe models had wooden trim, others (200,230,200D,220D,240D) did not. Not sure about the 240D 3.0 though.

I think your question is about options. In the US, most 115 cars don't have wood, most 114 cars do have wood. But there are dash differences between a 114 and 115 (speaker opening for example). You might be able to add wood to a 115 dash. 250 and 280 and coupe models are all 114 cars. 200, 230, 200D, 220D, 240D are all 115 models.

My 240D 3.0 has wood dash. I'm guessing it was standard on the 3.0

Yes... This has nothing to do with the year and everything to do with the model of the car. The higher priced cars had the nicer trim.

I recall the 115 300D came with the wood trim since Mercedes was trying to convince everyone that a five cylinder engine was really a workable thing. This may sound weird now, but in 1975 it was one of those 'what are they trying to pull here' things, at least in the US anyway.

Quite right.

All the coupes, and the 250, 280, and 300 sedans had the wood trim.
Trim consisted of three pieces: One to the left of the instruments, penetrations for the vent and headlight switch. Second was on the glovebox door, and third, to the right of the glovebox lid, with a penetration for the vent. The second and third piece is a matched pair.

The 300D had an additional hole in the left side trim, possibly for idle setting.

The dashes differ in both speaker opening and grain. It's a leather grain up to '72, then pebble grain for 73 and up. I'm not certain if the speaker differences are by year or by model, or both........

The speaker grill differences are 114 vs. 115 independent of options. There is a smaller opening in the center of the dash of a 115 and the grill is a removable plastic grill. In contrast, the 114 has a slightly larger opening and the grill is a rectangular metal plate with slits cut in it, then foam and upholstered with the same slits. It attaches by 4 metal friction clips. The problem with a 114 speaker grill is that the vinyl with the slits cut into it degrades horribly and it just becomes sort of a messed-up plastic covering on a metal grill. There is no replacement for the vinyl that is cut correctly so you are pretty much screwed. On later 114 cars that had 2 (or 4) STEREO speakers, the dash speaker panel still remained except the upholstery was just solid vinyl with no slits - much easier to repair if needed. I'm not aware of what the 115 dash grill is like for a car that had no radio, but I would guess it still has the grill.

More than you ever wanted to know about 114/115 speaker grills...
