Since I'll be driving my '67 250SE Cabrio to Cincinnati this week, I thought I'd just put a quick post up about what things to have with you and what checks to make before any long road trip...

What to pack:

1. Combination wrench set 10-19mm
2. 3/8" ratchet and socket (10-19mm) set
3. At least four quarts of oil
4. At least two quarts of tranny fluid
5. Gallon of water or 50/50 ethylene glycol
6. Breaker bar and deep 17mm socket for lug bolts
7. Tire gauge
8. Service manual (usually a Haynes or Chiltons will do)
9. Cellular phone
10. A couple spare bulbs
11. Spare drive belt set

Things to check before leaving the homestead:

1. Oil level
2. Trans fluid level
3. Air filter element
4. Brake fluid level
5. Windshield washer fluid level
6. Coolant level
7. Tire pressures
8. Spare tire pressure
9. Tool kit with jack and lug wrench
10. Light bulbs
11. Drive belts
12. Condition of tires (and spare)

Hope this checklist will be of some help to those of you who like to venture out on the open road in your classic! BTW, my spares kit is fully loaded--just in case!!

Aaron, you're too good! I'm predicting there will be a BUNCH of people that wished they'd followed your advice!

P.S. I gotta get out there and beg you to drive a few of your rides...perhaps an hour with your Interceptor in exchange for my 500E (I'll disable the ASR for ya...)..but I want to run you on the highway with your 745 turbo!! Maybe not the same outcome as your encounter with the pickup...my 500 runs pretty good. Ask Gary I'm thinkin' he'll back me` up

regards, Michael

Michael,

Sure! I'd be glad to trade ya the Jensen or the Bimmer for some 500E fun! I have been seriously considering a 500E lately and might jump make a move should the right one come along. I thought briefly about an S600 until I did two timing covers on them in the past two weeks. Not pretty, but a helluva car! Anyhow, when you're in Ohio, drop me a line and I'd be more than happy to meet up with you for some good old Bahnstorming!
