Oil Filter on 200D

I haven't started yet, so I really don't know what's inside. But reading the tech service manual, it states that for the 200D engine the oil filter has a paper filter element + bypass flow filter (metal).

Where does one get the paper filter element bit? Does it actually exist? I didn't want to take things apart and then get stuck for a few days scrambling for a replacement part. Pelican didn't seem to have it listed.

The filter is the same as 220d 240d 300d to 1976. It has a cartrige filter and a plastic disk pre filter that can be cleaned if it has no holes.

As you can see, the paper filter is inside a metal cannister. You can buy that at parts stores or at your friendly neighbourhood Mercedes-Benz dealer. As said, the oil filter is the same for the 1968-1976 200D/220D/240D/300D.

The main filter is washable. The dirt is on the outside. Be sure not to get dirt on the inside of the filter, so cover the opening:

I'll be reaching out to the MBZ dealer today for the replacements. First oil change, so I have no idea the condition and thought to err on the safe side.

Don't forget to change the oil of the injection pump and the oil in the air filter.

Oil in the injection pump is changed by unscrewing the bolt the red arrow points to and pouring in oil at the top (remove the red cap) until fresh oil comes out. You don't have to remove the bolt completely, it is a banjo bolt.

Mann and Bosch are good brands for filters. MB often uses Mann filters for the filters it sells with the star on it.

I finished the change, but had a few questions.

* on my injection pump, there is what looks like a banjo bolt with a u-shaped overflow tube. This would be between the pump and engine block. I say overflow as it was dripping oil after the oil swap. It has since stopped.

* any tips on getting the oil filter open? There's a 8mm Allen bolt at the top that refused to budge. (Yes, I changed the oil w/o swapping in a new filter :D )

There is an overflow tube. It is a safety device in the case you never or rarely change the oil in the IP. The leaking diesel will raise the oil/diesel level in the IP and if it gets high enough it will flow out of the overflow tube, so that the IP isn't filled up with diesel/oil.

The oil filter opens on the bottom. You can see a single bolt in the middle.

Thanks Govert for the info on the IP. Wow, I feel stupid now about the oil filter. I swear I didn't see anything on the bottom. ugh..
