Where can I purchase new or used modern retractable bayonet-style front seat belts that will fit my restored 1969 3.5 coupe? I tried everywhere and no luck! (dealer wants $800 EACH SIDE). Would used belts from a W107 450 SL/C fit the coupe?
Or does anyone have a box of NOS seat belts sitting in their garage? ;-) ------------------ 1983 300 TD (his) 1969 280SE 3.5 coupe (his) 1985 300 CD (hers) |
When I restored my '59 coupe I put in MB seat belts. Took a lot of engineering to do the job right, but results are good. The shop even replaced the black webbing with matching interior colors. I do not remember the exact model belt I purchased, but I think it was out of a '76 280C, and I certainly didn't pay $800. I bought mine from Tom Hanson at Caliber Motors wholesale 1-800-252-6877. He is very knowlegeable in old MB's.
One caution, make sure these things get anchored properly. If they are just bolted to the floor pan, they will pull out in a crash. Ed |
Mercedes issued a service bulletin about retro-fitting the later belts into the coupes....right after I agonized and worried about putting a couple of sets in some very nice 3.5 convertibles for a customer (figures). The guys I worked with at Carriage House in Atlanta sent me a copy after I moved to the frozen north as a joke.
