mercedes w108 manual sunroof
I live in jakarta, Indonesia, a vintage Mercedes hobbyist / collector and am currently rebuilding a 1970 W108 from scretch. It had an electrical sunroof but the motor, cable and othet mechanism were missing. The only items intact are the sunroof panel and the railings. Rather than restoring the electric powered sunroof, I want to make it a manual version, i.e. more reliable. Someone told me that I could use the manual mechanism of a W123 as long as I use the same railings. Could some one please advise me:
1. Is it true? 2. If so, kindly list the items required and where I could buy them.By the way, I already managed to secure the w108 sunroof seals (4 pieces), Much appreciated guys. |

I have never had a manual sunroof apart, but the electric ones use a motor in the trunk with a long screw driven device to activate the roof.
I would suggest trying to find a blow-up on-line of the inner workings of each. The 'Catalog of Illustrations' should show all the parts needed for both versions. I do know the US cars all had the electric version except for the 123 wagon and that was only because Mercedes could not figure out where to put the drive motor, so there should be a description of each type in the Catalog. |
